Last week, tourism professionals and experts from science, technology, and media met in Berlin for a two-day foresight workshop to develop concrete steps to jointly shape the future of tourism.

Day 1 was dedicated to future technologies in tourism such as AI, big data, mobility, and VR. Renowned speakers such as Prof. Dr. Liudger Dienel (TU Berlin), Oliver Puhe (C.I.S.T.), and Dr. Christoph Lange-Bever (Fraunhofer FIT) shared insights into data-driven innovations and GAIA-X. Cyril Tuschis VR demo (SyncReality) with virtual tours and hotel visits offered participants first-hand impressions of the future of travel. Exciting future scenarios were developed in group work, which concluded the day. The evening ended with an aperitif and a historical lecture by Dr. Hartmut Kühne from the University of Leipzig on the beginnings of package tourism in the Middle Ages.

Day 2 was all about strategic approaches. Futurist and physicist Karl-Heinz Steinmüller led through the development of scenarios for 2030 and 2050, and Ziyi Huang provided exciting insights into innovative approaches in international tourism with a “look at China.” These global perspectives offered impulses that the participants could translate and adapt into the German tourism landscape. Influencer Jasmin Mühlbach from ReDiscover Brandenburg spoke in an interview with Fabienne Sand about her perspective as a “professional traveler” on the future challenges and opportunities in tourism.

Conclusion: Two intensive, productive days full of new perspectives, exciting impulses, and valuable results! A big thank you to all participants and the partners from the Mittelstand Digital Zentrum Tourismus and DIANA T for the inspiring collaboration and the exciting exchange. More to come! ✨
